Sarah Makem was born in Keady, Co. Armagh in 1900. She rarely travelled from this area but she has left an indelible imprint on Irish traditional singing.
Her main preoccupation was singing - she sang through happiness and sadness and thankfully, people recorded these intimate moments in the 50's and 60's and thus this gem of a recording, consisting of three cds.
She proved a great source for songs for the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem and indeed her grand daughter, Stephanie Makem, who contributed new undocumented songs to this collection.
Sarah departed her earthly domain in 1983 with a rich singing legacy intact.
