This release of the music of the ancient Irish harpers comes at a time when UNESCO has recognised the Irish Harp as peculiar to this great musical country of ours and Steve Cooney advances the reputation of its tunes in an emotive,sensitive and empathethic fashion, on guitar.
He is , in a sense , the present day manifestation of the ancient Irish harper and the power of his music was evident earlier when a woman came into the shop on hearing the music issuing forth and commented thus: "If my children were babies again, I'd have this playing on repeat."

Loved this album so much I bought another one as a present for friends. Lovely tunes, played in Steve's immaculate style, Ruaridh Dall, Carolan, Lyons, Conlan, all the big names and not always the most obvious tunes. A particularly nice touch is An Speic Seoigeach dedicated to Liam O'Flynn, and Eleanor Plunkett's long been a favourite, going back to hearing John Doonan play it in the 70s. If Steve Cooney wasn't so busy, I'd be lobbying for a Volume 2.

Bought this months ago and it's still by the CD player, just a lovely album. The playing, as you'd expect from Steve Cooney, is immaculate, but the overall pacing of the album is perfect. And he plays "Bridget Cruise", one of my favourite Carolan tunes, so no argument from me. I've just ordered another copy for friends, who I'm sure will be delighted with it (he said, with a slightly fanatical glint in his eye). Another beauty from Custy's, thanks! r
