Jimmy Power was born in Ballyduff in Co. Waterford in 1918.

He arrived in London in 1947 before it had taken off as an amazing centre of Irish music and played as much as possible and in the late 5o's and 60's played with the greats including Mairtin Byrnes and Bobby Casey .

His exposure to Michael Gorman improved his technique and repetoire and he took his place amongst the greats in a thriving music scene in London.

The seminal live recording, Paddy in the Smoke, was recorded at the Favourite Pub during Jimmy Power's regular session there and Jimmy acted as the M.C. inviting the musicians to perform in different combinations.
