This is an extraordinary audio publication. A fireside view of the life’s journey of Oliver O’Connell, poet, music maker and story teller from Co Clare who narrates his passage of life from birth to present day Ireland weaving his story into the ever-changing tapestry of life in Ireland over the past 65 years.
His north Clare memories set against the backdrop of some beautiful music will take the listener to another Ireland in another time and will ignite nostalgia and happy memories.
He tells the story of the rise of Doolin to international fame as a music mecca. He delivers a scorching narration on the demise of the Celtic tiger and his self-penned poem of “Homeless in Dublin” is heart-breaking to hear.
He tells of the decimation of rural country life through emigration, his own battles with life threatening cancer, his traditional music journey in Clare and London and his memories of a different Ireland and a different people.
The audio recording is four hours of riveting memories interspersed with his own poetry and prose. Oliver’s writing is textbook imagery delivered in his own inimitable style and this audio is guaranteed to keep the listener interested to the very last chapter.
Oliver has an uncanny ability to paint beautiful imagery with words and in a post covid world where people have woken up to a new world order, “I Remember it all” is a story worth listening to as we all face a future where the landscape, music and culture of an Irish Nation has defined who we are. and is moulding us for a new tomorrow.
Great narration, loved it!
Great narration, loved it! Olivers stories tell a tale of north Clare full of nostalgia from someone who knows the area from the heart. I loved the Doolin chapter and the double ****** which I never heard of before! Great antidotes on local characters and places like Lisdoonvarna. About 4 hours long and carries you through really well.
Always a Journey Never a Destination
Brillant!!! I enjoyed watching the dvd several times. I gave some of the dvd's as gifts and they were appreciated by all. . Oliver can't be outdone for his excellant storytelling , and for presenting the music, the charm of the Irish people and the history and beauty of his beloved Burren. I loved going on this journey with him.
Oliver o Connell's book
Loved it!! Very well written and a glance in to what it was like in Rural Clare in the 50's and 60's.
Incredible Life Journey
I am completely in awe of Oliver'sspellbinding account of his life and how genuine it all is interspersed with historical telling of the changing times over the years. It has taught me a lot as I have heard anything like it in my life. Have gone back to listen again several times. This is a gem that I highly recommend people to buy and listen to. There's so much to be learned about how to approach life. Thank you Oliver for sharing such a beautiful personal account.
Way to go!
